Golden Globes Director Shut-Out

The nominees have been revealed. You may or may not have heard by now that the nominees for the Best Director category at the 2020 Golden Globes all have one thing in common, and it's not just their talent.

All of the nominees this round are (surprise, surprise!) men.

Now, I can't run a diverse female-led production company, have a blog, and not talk about this. The only reason I didn't blast this out the day the news broke was due to my packed schedule (I'm a busy gal!).

Fighting to be treated equal, proving time and time again that women can do anything a man can do (and often do it better), and to still get shut out of one of the most prestigious awards ceremony is exhausting. What's a girl gotta do to get a freaking award around here??

One thing is abundantly clear. We can't wait to be recognized. We can't wait for a seat at the table, and we sure as fudge can't wait for an award. We'll be waiting forever. So, instead, we will make our own table. We will support one another, as we have always done. We will NOT support those who do not respect us.

Alma Har'el, director of breakout hit "Honey Boy", responds to Golden Globe female director exclusion.

Another thing that is glaringly obvious? The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) must have their heads in the sand if they really can't see the demand for equality. A simple google search reveals how (rightfully) pissed and disappointed people are.

The show airs on January 5th, 2020, and I will not be watching. If I had a ticket, I would not attend. There are real financial consequences to resisting change and diversity. And, in this way, we can take back some control.

Oh, and anyone who says that there aren't enough talented women directors out there simply isn't paying attention.
